Linguapress.com Languages and area studies resources
About us. Linguapress.com is a portal for teachers and learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) and English as a second language (ESL). Our main aim is to offer a range of free online resources for teachers and students; These resources include: (a)
a selection of articles and short stories in graded
and simplified
English, accompanied by vocabulary notes and ideas for the
classroom;
(b) thematic crosswords in graded English, and other word games; (c) clear explanations of some of the main points of the English language, grammar, syntax and other aspects of language; and finally (d) some other pages with information for teachers and students of English as a foreign language, including studying English in England, choosing an English language school, the story of English, and more. Founded in 1980 - Linguapress began life as an independent EFL (English as a Foreign Language) publisher and bookshop based in France. Linguapress EFL newsmagazines, published from 1980 to 2001, had readers in high schools and further education all over Europe, notably in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland and Norway... and as far away as Japan and Mongolia. In the pre-Internet era, before the World Wide Web put worldwide news in any language into every school at the click of a mouse, Linguapress newsmagazines in graded English offered teachers and students the unusual ability to keep abreast of the current affairs from the English-speaking countries. Linguapress.com was set up in 1998 to publish and develop material from the Linguapress archives, add new material, and make it available to teachers and students worldwide. While a lot of the material initially published between 1980 and 2001 in Linguapress magazines was current-affairs based, and is now largely outdated, the magazines also published a large collection of background and cultural articles on life and issues in the English speaking countries – not to mention word games and crosswords and a number of original short stories. This archive of articles, together with the classroom teaching material to accompany it, is the bedrock of the new Linguapress.com. In the course of time, Linguapress.com will also develop as a directory of resources for EFL teachers and for students and teachers of British and American area studies.
